20 Questions With Our Digital Marketing Coordinator

Blending kindness with being a great listener and a hard worker is difficult for most people, but Esperanza makes it look easy. Fluent in memes and always making us laugh, Esperanza is a true bright light in the Z SUPPLY office. She is in charge of the majority of our blogs as well as helping with all advertising efforts. We sat down with Esperanza for a quick chat about her life, her work, and, of course, her clothes.

What is your job title at Z SUPPLY?

I am the Digital Marketing Coordinator & Copywriter.

You went from an intern to a full-time employee -- what changes have you seen in the company since you started working here a year and a half ago?

I interned for about a year before being hired on, so I got to see lots of new hires coming into the office and becoming part of the team. As a small company, we are constantly growing and seeing progress (and the people behind the progress), which has been very interesting and fun.

What is your go-to look when you’re in a rush to get out of the house?

As a fashion enthusiast, I’m always working on developing my style. I don’t really have a go-to look, but I will admit to outfit repetition. When I am in a hurry, I'll throw on a look that I already know has worked in the past. Whether that be a dress paired with a vintage denim jacket or high-waisted trousers styled with a basic top, an oldie but a goodie always seems to work.

Name 3 items you think are wardrobe must-haves.

A striped tee, a black dress, and a pair of converse. Would you look at that, I just made an outfit. I dare you to wear all of those in the same look and then tag me with @hopebottle.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the central valley of California. Some place far, far, away -- hidden and lonely. Just kidding. For simplicity’s sake, just imagine Fresno County.

Who is your hero? Why?

My grandparents, who’ve raised me for as long as I can remember. They are humble, kind, and hardworking individuals who are carefree and and very loving. Also, they are cute picture Carl and Ellie from the movie Up.

What is your favorite Z SUPPLY item?

Shout out to the Camo Overalls because 1) they are not made of a stiff denim fabric; they are actually made for moving around 2) you’ll be making a statement no matter what room you walk in and 3) they are the perfect thing to throw on when you want to look effortlessly cool. They're camo overalls -- I’m not sure it can get better than that!

Describe your personal style.

Modern trendsetter. I’m (mostly) not afraid to experiment how else will you find your personal style? I’m currently in love with high-waisted trousers (vintage ones you can only find at Goodwill or a thrift store), statement coats, and cool shoes. I love letting a statement piece do the talking and then completing the look with quality basics.

If money and time were no object, where would you travel and why?

South Korea because 1) food, 2) food, and 3) fashion.

We know you’ve had a love for fashion for a long time now, but what sparked your interest in it?

I would have to say my grandma because I have always seen her make her own clothing out of scratch so that it meets her expectations and taste.

What will you be up to this holiday season?

I will finally be going home for a lovely staycation. Ever since I came to SoCal to pursue higher education (Zot, Zot, Zot) (ed. note: “zot” is [the mythical] the sound that an anteater makes, which is the mascot of UC Irvine, where Esperanza went to school) and eventually my career, I have stopped going back home as often. I haven't been home in months so it will be great to spend some quality time with my family.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

For someone who can never decide on what to eat EVER, this is the most challenging question so far. I love curry, sushi, tacos, fried chicken, ramen…but my absolute favorite is poke.

We’ve heard you’ve been painting a lot lately. Which of your masterpieces has been your favorite so far?

A re-creation of Bold and Brash by Squidward Tentacles. It’s a classic. Google it.

What is something that never fails to cheer you up?

Memes and plants. The best combo, if you ask me.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation because I hate driving.

What is the weirdest myth your family has ever told you?

Well, being Hispanic comes with many myths that your abuela (grandma) will tell you. Here’s a list of my favorites:

  1. Vicks VapoRub cures anything and everything
  2. Placing your purse on the floor is bad luck
  3. Sweeping someone’s feet is bad luck
  4. Pointing at a rainbow will result in a wart or bad luck
  5. Going out with your hair wet will make you sick

There are many more that I was taught as a kid and subliminally follow just because I don’t want to take the chance.

Describe yourself in three words.

Creative. Quiet. Motivated.

We see you like to try new styles -- what’s your favorite trend at the moment?

I have so many, where do I start? I live for a sneaker collab (Fenty Pumas, PLAY X Converse, etc.), I am loving berets for the season, statements coats are life, and the color mustard is showing up way more in my closet.

What do you love most about your job?

There are several things that I love about working at Z SUPPLY, but my favorite would have to be the small, start-up feel. This means that I get to constantly try new things and gain new skills because there are a ton of opportunities and the environment is never boring. One day, I’ll be working on brainstorming ads, and the next I’ll be writing product descriptions for a new season. I love that my job always keeps me thinking up creative ways to reach our customers. I also love that I am able to freely express my style — I would cry if I had to wear a suit.

  • What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Be kind. Given to me by my grandparents and Ellen DeGeneres.
